Should I open it? (Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight)

I've got a Walmart-clearanced $75 NST with Glow - brand new in sealed box. I'm hesitating on opening it.

I bought it because 90% of my purchased library is with B&N, thanks to them finally importing the Fictionwise customers, and my family buys me B&N gift cards.

I do my on-the go reading on my Sony T2 - it's loaded with hundreds of TBR books via Calibre. I sideload 1-2 books to a Kindle PW2 for night reading, plus occasional Overdrive borrows or Amazon freebies. I don't love the Kindle interface, but once I'm in a book I almost forget that I dislike the fonts and layout.

I know this model has the perk of additional storage space and SD card.

Does the NST+G show the book cover in sleep mode? Can I load my own fonts without rooting?

Anything else that might compel me to open this up rather than return it?
