Once I was walking in the financial district in Vancouver and was bending over to pick up a $20 from the sidewalk and a well dressed guy with a briefcase knocked me over and grabbed it and ran off down the street.

Much worse to lose your wallet. Maybe offer a reward at the restaurant for information leading to. Could go there more than once and chances are that if they do they are not well liked. Trying to do something can make one feel less victimized. My sympathies.
