Mostly people are familiar with Elizabeth von Arnim as the author of Elizabeth and her German Garden and The Enchanted April. Both books are too twee for my tastes, but she wrote one black comic gem in my estimation. Vera is a psychological story of a marriage, akin to du Maurier's Rebecca but first and better and much darker.
