Dear both, I want to express you my IMMENSE GRATITUDE!! :-)
I worked on this for hours & hours, trying to fix the issue to save the hours & hours & hours I spent cleansing my huge DB...
With your help, I could drake it, I am back to normal, and with a clear understanding of th issue!
Many many thanks guys!
For the record & others:
- I faced a Dropbox sync issue (didn't let the sync finish, actually switched my Dropbox folder to a new disk...) so Calibre when saving the library to Dropbbox generated an issue on Dropbox side (replication/synchronisation conflict)
- I ended up with many files (mostly metadata, main library DB and some covers) being doubled (1 normal, being the old metadata + 1 "dropbox conflict", being the new one I edited with the new metadata)
To fix this I proceeded as follow (I am using a Mac, but similar approach works for a PC):
- get some help form the forum to point out the issue! Thanks again ;-)
- created a saved search in my library folder to identify all the files with the "dropbox conflict" ("conflict" charter chain added in the file name)
- open the enclosing folder for a dozen of them, and compared the 2 duplicated files: "metadata" & "metadata (conflict)". I used the Kaleidoscope app (great) to compare the content of the files, but Araxis Merge or Deltawalker do the same
- I identified than the file I wanted was the one with the conflit
- I renamed all the "metadata (conflit)" files into "metadata" using the "Renamer" app (excellent one), but "name wrangler" or "name changer" would do also the job
- when renaming in batch (1 drag & drop from my search into the renamed, 1 click to batch rename), I got of course prompted that files "metadata" were existing: just confirm to "replace them all" --> no duplicate anymore (the wrong "metadata" file got overwritten, no need to manually find & delete them)
THEN, BEFORE OPENING CALIBRE AGAIN, I FIXED MY SETUP:
- I moved the Library out of Dropbox to avoid such a pain in the future
- I setup the "Hazel" app (great app!) to COPY all new eBook from the Calibre library TO Dropbox (no sync, just pure copy)
And I am done!
FREE TIP: I use also Hazel to automatically copy my new eBooks from the Kindle folder (where they appear when I sync my Kindle with the Mac) into another specific folder, which I set up to be monitored by Calibre which then automatically add these new books to its library...
Thanks again & enjoy!
A happy eBook / Calibre / Marvin (and a bit Kindle) user/reader
