It's contract negotiations , last time the publishers tried to get into selling direct Amazon kicked off, this time Amazon are quietly squeezing the publisher and the publisher is kicking off.
This happens every day, and yes...people either "just accept it" or try to change it. I know at least 4 people that this has happened to in the past year...2 of them just shrugged their shoulders and took the cut (they did complain, but did nothing to change it) Of the other two, one started his own side business nights and weekends, and the other moved to another location where there were more jobs. There are always other options. They may not be the options that you want, but they do exist.
