There have been many times that I have seen things offered for free that I would like to have (I don't remember any ebooks, but there could have been one or more), but I would have to go to Facebook, go to the company's page, and click on "Like" to get the freebie. Usually, unless it is something that I very much want, I will not do it. There is something about having to do that that is annoying (aside from the fact that I may not really know yet whether or not I "like" that company).
Since you already have a Facebook account, there's nothing stopping you from "Liking" the company (as a thank you, sort of like giving karma at MR), and then "Unliking" them after downloading the book. The effects: clicking "Like" gives the company (and you) a temporary boost in social media "klout"/visibility/relevance/status and places their posts in your Facebook stream (think of it as a Facebook distribution list), which by clicking "Unlike" you neutralize going forward.
