You guys sound like my husband. I learned to cook like AM's mom - look at it and touch it to see if it's done. Tim wants details, for instance, sometimes he will cook cornbread if I call out the instructions to him. Then he will ask silly questions, such as:
1. How high do I turn the stove to get the pan ready?
High enough that the fat sizzles, but doesn't smoke.
2. How much buttermilk do I mix in?
Enough to make a batter thicker than chicken batter but thinner than
pancake batter.
3. What temperature should I put the oven on?
As hot as it will go without starting up the "broil" function.
4. Does this look right to you?
I dunno, does it look right to

Right about there, he asks me to finish it up for him. Which leaves me with nothing more to do than pour the batter into the sizzling hot pan and stick it into the hot oven.
