Lame Duckiness is sort of like when you give your two weeks notice. Officially you are still an employee, but you pretty much let things pile up, burn off any unused sick and vacation time, and generally leave all of the big problems for whoever they hire to replace you.

The Prez-Elect is sort of like the temp they bring in to try to learn enough about your job to help the dept cope with the gap you are leaving. So you show the temp how to answer the phones, where the supply closet is hiding, and have them run errands for you. Keep 'em busy without actually teaching them any of your hard-earned wisdom.
