I don't have the HD (just the 6" Aura) but for me CR sleeps just fine. Unlike Koreader....which seems to be a known issue (see the relevant Koreader thread).
With CR, I always open the cover and see the random picture indicating it was sleeping.
I have 3.3.0 and launch through Start Menu.
