I guess I blamed the wrong program.
I installed the stable Koreader version from 2 months ago, and started Koreader as usual through Start Menu. Same thing happened, crash after the first few seconds non reading break.

Back to the latest nightly (which finally has all the features I want), and this time I started Koreader from Nickel through the koreader.png. No crash.
Only disadvantage, no screen saver and coming back from Koreader (e.g. to start USB).

So there is something wrong with the Start Menu on my Kobo Mini...
While I wrote this text I just had to reboot my Mini to get out of Koreader, and it stayed on the Start Menu, and I did not do anything on the device for a few minutes, and now again it is not reacting, I had to reboot it.
Any idea what that is? (I guess I am in the wrong thread for this, but since I started here in KoReader I wanted at least to close the case here, I will post a new one at Start Menu).

UPDATE: Solved. The SD card was the culprit. exchanged it and everything was fine!
