I have used the kindle lending feature a lot. To really get anything worth reading out of it you have to join a group (there are some groups on goodreads that do this, and some lending sites) with a lot of people to lend back and forth in a particular genre or the selection really is kind of crummy. I haven't been able to use the Kindle Lending Library at all, because it isn't worth $78 to me to borrow 12 books. I mean really. My husband has Prime so I get the shipping benefit which is nice, but I can go through 12 books in 2 weeks (as opposed to a year

). And like you said most of these books are cheap and self-published and go free every now and then. So that is also not worth it to me.
But Scribd...so far in the past month or so I have read 25 books and I have hundreds more in my library. So I'm going to go paid with it when my 3 months are up.
