The HDX 8.9 looks like a great machine and I'm glad you like it. And I'm sure they'll take good care of you as long as you don't care too much about being penned in.

But I, like so many others, have a wariness about being locked in to the ecosystem of a particular company, no matter how good it is. I call it "digital claustrophobia".

We'll see how proprietary the new product is once it's announced. But if past experience is any indication Amazon's business model has been very successful for them and I don't expect it to change.
