I went from a Nook ST to the Aura HD. The reader software deals with images in a superior manner on the Kobo. Double tap on an image in a kepub and you get a full-screen, rotatable, zoomable view. On the Nook it was strictly WYSIWG. This works on native kepubs and epubs converted to kepubs automatically by the extended Kobo driver plugin loaded in Calibre.
Customization is a bit easier on Kobo as well -- easily loaded user fonts, and software patches that can be used without an involved rooting procedure.
