I apologise if this seems like a stupid question.

I purchase Kindle ebooks in a foreign currency and have to pay fees for the transaction. I have "bought" some free Kindle books for £0.00. Does Amazon debit anything from debit/credit cards for these transactions? Even if the transaction is 1p, I still have to pay 46c (Euro) in transaction fees.
