How do you buy an updated kindle book?

Recently I found that a book that I've bought from Kindle has a new edition. I'm probably not entitled to get this update for free. I've tried redownloading the book from the cloud, but all I got was the same older book.

I'm just wondering how I could buy the new edition.

On the top of the product page on Amazon are these words: "Instant Order Update for xx. You purchased this item on xxxx". Even though I don't own the new edition, these words sit on top of the product page of the *new* edition.

If I do the 1-click thing, will I be getting another copy of the old edition?

This is the 2013 edition, but I have the 2012 edition:
