I disagree to a certain extent. Calendar is built in, but people use other calendar apps. The same can be said for browsers, email clients, to-do, and notepad apps. Podcasts used to play in the music app, but that didn't stop me from buying Downcast years ago. Now there will be those people who won't try other ebook apps, however I'd wager those people would stick with iBooks anyway since Apple prompts you to download it.

This really isn't surprising to me. The writing was on the wall when iBooks was baked into Mavericks. I'm more surprised they didn't bake it into iOS 7. I'm sticking with Marvin! I require way more from an eReader app than Apple will give me. I'm still using Downcast for the same reason.
