Device: Kobo Glo
No italics for generic sans-serif font family (fallback font)

Product: Kobo Glo (applicable to all other models)
Firmware: 3.3.0
Plugins: n/a
File types: epub
Sideloaded or from Kobobooks: n/a
On external SD: n/a
Steps to reproduce:
  1. use the attached files
Current result: No italics for sans-serif fonts when user agent has to use the default (embedded) fallback sans serif font family.
The problematic fonts for firmware 3.3.0 seems to be Avenir Next (fallback font for sans-serif font), Gothic: no italics, no bold, no bold and italics (only regular), Ryumin: no italics, no bold, no bold and italics (only regular).
Affects only regular epub files. Kepubs are not affected with this bug.
Workaround: No. This affects the predefined generic font families definitions/rules.
Sure, user can embed fonts in an epub. But this is not possible for purchased books as these are protected by DRM.

Other observations (no bugs):
  • No real monospace font predefined (e.g. Courier)
  • OpenDyslexic font is considered a "monospace font". Why? Probably poor implemention by Kobo (they chose the "easy" way). Instead of adding a new (not used) generic "cursive" font family.
