Arrrrgggghhhh! I hate stupid web sites. And I really hate Overdrive!

So, I've been using the BC Library's eBook site (powered by Overdrive), for several years. The site requires that I log on with the bar code number from the back of my library card, rather than a user name or email address or whatever. Annoying, but tolerable once I put the details into RoboForm. I haven't used my physical library card in several years, but the other day I wanted to look up something on the actual site for my local Library. And it informed me that my card had expired? Now there is NO expiration date on the card itself. But OK, no big deal, except I couldn't find my old card. Sigh. So, yesterday, I drove the half hour to the library and they were quite helpful, issuing me a new card. BUT, just as I'm leaving, she reminds me that this card has a new number. And now I really start to worry.

Sure enough, I go to log on to the BC Library downloads (aka, Overdrive) site, and I can't. I have 5 books on hold there. Most, no big deal, the hold level is 1-5 people ahead of me. But I was number 7 out of 92 on the waiting list for Chris Hadfield's book! I've been waiting for MONTHS., starting out at #123!!! There are 9 copies, and I was due to get it within the next couple of weeks.

So, I go through the hassle of getting logged in with my new card number, and my worst fears have been true. All of my holds are gone and I have to start all over again. I am now #93 on the wait list for Hadfield's book. AND, when I come up on the list with my old library card? It will email me, at the same address as the new library card, and I won't be able to do anything at all except rant. And wait until the new hold works its way through the list, somewhere in the fall.
