Kindle firmware (on the paperwhite) was a complete and utter disaster, for me personally, after the cloud collections update. (I currently have a PW1 running a firmware from sometime in 2013, which has been blocked against all future updates).
The Kobo guys send an awful lot of updates out. Yay for them for constantly working on and upgrading their firmware! Since I don't, as a rule, turn on the wifi on my Kobo(s), I can pick and choose which updates I want.
