I am using the same hack. Installation order was first telnet hack, then Kobolaucher, then Start Menu. I can use it via Nickel>browser connects to internet to get an IP address>telnet&FTP work

Odd that the behavior for Wifi telnet and USBnet telnet are not the same for you.
