I don't think it's worth it. When I got my Simple Touch new, I immediately sold my Nook 1E to alleviate the cost of the new one. When I move on to the next Kindle paperwhite model, I'll sell my Simple Touch to make up the cost again.

I thought about keeping as a backup, but my reasoning is this: If my Nook breaks, I will buy a new one. There's no question about that, and I think you would agree with me. I'd be on Amazon in 2 seconds ordering a Paperwhite and it'd be at my door in 2 days. I'd survive for 2 days without a book. If I REALLY needed a new reader RIGHT NOW I'd go to Barnes and Noble and get a new Glowlight and be reading in an hour.

It doesn't seem like a good idea to keep around a device you won't use, particularly as batteries tend to go bad. Kindle cloud reader will allow you to use your book in a web browser on a chromebook until a new one arrives.
