I think that a lot of Christians would agree with you, Ricky. In the traditional liturgical calender, Christmas is preceded by Advent, which is a time of reflection, repentance and fasting. Then there's Christmas day (a major feast) with the 12 days of Christmas as holidays.

The rampant commercialism is impossible to reconcile with Advent. And by the day after Christmas, the whole thing has a sense of anti-climax. The intended meaning has been corrupted by the profiteers.
