I guess, the main reason for the stylus had been to operate the desktop.
You can do so much more in Office on Surface Pro, than you can do on iPad or Android. But you need tons of menus for that and those are hard to operate without a pen.
To make the stylus appear more useful than a mere necessity, OneNote was (one of many) logical choice(s).
But whether I use Surface Pro 2 or the 8" Dell Venue 8 Pro: Personally, I can't imagine taking lots of notes on any of those.
I bought the highly mobile keyboard for Dell Venue 8 Pro, if I have to write lengthy emails on the train for example. I'd never do this with a pen.
For the same reason, I bought the Logitech Ultrathin keyboard for iPad mini Retina.
If I have to jot a note, it's still more convenient and faster and more flexible, to do so on my DIN A5 paper journal for the Livescribe pen. I don't have to worry about spilled coffee or leaving my journal unattended in a meeting room...
