I've had a Note 3 for a couple of months and am very impressed. I use Moon+ Reader for fiction and even after two or three hours non-stop gazing at a novel, have suffered no eye strain or other problems. Ereader software on Android is very mature now and you have a huge choice of apps. The screen size is fine for novels, although I probably wouldn't choose to read pdfs on it.
You can change the typeface, size, colour, brightness, margins, line spacing, page background etc. to suit your needs.
YMMV

Probably I wear glasses, so even in Kindle and Kobo reader, I always enlarge font size and increase line space, so if I read in my Note 1 for example, I found I constantly have to turn page, too much for me

. I don't want to touch thousands times to read a small book, I worried it will damage my phone
