This reminds me of something I thought but didn't mention due to lack of evidence.

It's this: There never really was a 1 - 2 month wait (now down to 1 -3 weeks on the title I've been watching) for any new Hachette book. The most likely explanation for slapping onto a web page long wait times is to discourage purchases from a targeted supplier. But Hachette has no reason to delay shipment, and Amazon is too pro-customer to actually impose the ridiculous estimated wait time if someone did buy the book.
