The unit is in the living room in the left corner and the front door is about 20 feet in front of it where the air is hitting, the hallway doesn't stand a chance without fans of getting any air from it and to makes matters worse the hot water heater is the first room stopping any cool air from making it to the back rooms.
Sounds like you need to set up some 'deflector' screens to redirect your air flow - depending on the size of the outlet into the room - you can either rig some sort of flange on the outlet itself or arrange furniture/boxes, etc. to 'bounce' the air where you want it to travel. Put a 'blanket' on the hot water heater to decrease its effect on the available cold air. Also, consider covering the front door with something like an insulated drape panel, or even foil, to lower the amount of heat entering your apt. and to decrease the loss of cool air from your apt.
