Ebook tech was introduced simultaneously all over the world (give or take a few months) and essentially the same hardware and software is available all over.
Seven years post-Kindle, the US/UK ebook business constitutes 25-35% of book sales, while most continental markets run at 2.5-3.5%.

Specialty readers are profitable in europe but barely available in NorthAm. Presumably hecause the vendors don't expect them to sell enough.

What remains other than difference in consumer interest and makeup?
