This is the first known book on architecture and civil engineering - usually
known as Vitruvius's Seven Books on Architecture.
He notes that white lead is known to be bad for you and hence suggests water
pipes should be fired clay not lead. Everybody ignored this and the Tudors
supplied Hampton Court water through a lead pipe (from across the river,
Google [Kingston Conduit House]).
