I don't know what your "install directory" is nor do I follow exactly what you are doing, but if you haven't done the following already I suggest you try it and see what you end up with.
Go to the Calibre website downloads and double click the download you want. When the "Do you want to run or save Calibre" bar comes up select "Save As" and save the installation file to a temporary folder on your drive.
Then navigate to that folder when the download has completed and you should have the 1.37 version (as long as you do it before 1.38 is issued
