I am currently dog sitting for this super adorable 7 year old Pitt. He loves giving kisses and is always glued to my side. And therein lies the problem. With me, he seems to be in protector mode all the time. Whenever other dogs pass by (either on the street as we are walking or on the street while we are at home, inside) he does the barking lunge thing. His combination of staying ever glued to my side (except when lunging) plus that he makes sure I am okay and licks me after these episodes tells me that I am the reason he is doing them. I think he is attempting to protect me and is treating me as a helpless lesser?
He doesn't behave this way for his Momma. That means this is something I am inadvertently encouraging. I don't like it. Not one bit.
Those of you with dog whisperer knowledge, what body language/habits should I be on the lookout for to stop doing so he will relax a bit?
