Just finished mopping up my garage floor. My middle daughter rang me at work earlier to say she just got back from school and heard water running. She opened the garage door (I converted it into a room with gym equipment, DIY tool bench and storage racks) to find the room under two inches of water. The tap was running full strength, pouring water into the room. Fortunately because the seal under the garage door is not perfect, some of the water was able to escape and flow into the drain in the middle of our drive.
The worrying thing is that none of us has used the tap in there for ages, and it hadn't just been accidentally bumped and started to leak. The tap had been fully opened all the way, and took a number of turns to switch it off. The only explanation I can come up with is that someone with a key (one of our kids lost a front door key a while ago) came in and turned the tap on - I can only speculate as to why they would do that. So now I have had to call in a locksmith to replace the front and back door locks (both used the same key) and am £160 poorer as a result (and a lot damper).
