I can underline pdfs on Kindle DX and quickly jump to any underlined part using the list of all underlined parts, because I use kindlepdfviewer, not native pdf reader that has poor zooming and other capabilities.

If there is need for annotation, color recognition, dictionaries, multitasking, quicker quick-referencing etc. I simply simultaneously use tablet or another e-reader while reading on DX.
Sony DPT-S1 is far too expensive for my liking too, but I shall definitely buy M96 next month if under 350 € in Europe.
