Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
The Vicar of Bullhampton (1870)
The vicar of Bullhampton (a country parish in the diocese of Salisbury) has an eventful time coping with a murder in the parish, trying to get to the truth about the murder and rescuing a fallen woman.
Meanwhile, the local Lord erects a particularly ugly Methodist chapel on the vicar’s doorstep. Can he get away with this?
And a young woman, who is a close friend of the vicar’s wife, has a hard time choosing between two suitors. Her friends encourage her to choose the more eligible man, but can she resist the dictates of her heart?
