Just FYI, they do have it for rent. There are two versions, the regular one can be rented (at Amazon, Vudu, MGo, etc.) and then there's a version with Bonus Features that can't be rented (not at Amazon anyway).


As for the Fire TV I too wouldn't mind hearing some first hand user reviews. I was given a Roku 3 for Christmas, plus have access to Amazon, Vudu, Netflix & Hulu through my Blu-Ray player so have no interest in buying a Fire TV right now, but will be watching future models just in case a must have feature is introduced (voice search isn't it).
