Preferences->Behaviour what is the
Job Priority setting. I have mine at Low, and in
Preferences->Miscellaneous I have
Max simultaneous.... as 1, and
Limit the max. simult... unchecked. For me those settings results in calibre jobs not interfering with me doing other things
But changing them in mid flight probably wont make any difference.
If you're using Windows, you could try changing the priority of the calibre task (it'll be a calibre-parallel.exe task) that's hogging the CPU in Task Manager (ctrl/shift/esc). Right click the task in the Processes Tab and select priority, try setting it to Below Normal, if that's not good enough try Low.
