Where did you get anything about "rooting"? There is no rooting involved in installing the alternative reading software or the Kobo Start Menu. In fact the normal install of the readers, makes it so the reader is launched by selecting an icon in the same way as selecting a book to read. All your current Kobo software remains in place and functional, you just also have added Koreader, Coolreader, Games and utilities along side the Kobo software.
