Later today I should finish book #33 for the year which will take me over the 50% mark of my page goal at 12,018 pages.
The 50% mark meant it was time to look at how I am doing versus past years, so far this year the changes in my reading habits that have jumped out at me are:
- I have read 27 authors, 14 of which are new to me (47% of books this year vs 68% of books overall). So I am reading more by familiar authors than normal. Overall, I have read 137 new authors out of 155 total authors in the last 3.5 years. Some of those new authors are included as familiar authors in later years (Hugh Howey, David Weber, Connie Willis, etc.)
- I have averaged 364 pages per book vs an overall average of 321 pgs/bk. I am reading longer books than normal, possibly tied to the familiar authors above.
- I have only re-read 1 book (3% vs 13% overall), but the difference is much greater in page counts - 1% this year vs 23% overall. I have been working hard on this one and hope to get my overall below 20% by the end of the year.
- I have read books in 12 different genres (including sub-genres). Again, I am trying to read a more diverse selection of books. I will always like fantasy books but it has been good to read and find other things I like.
- I have purchased 6 books, read 3 of them, and borrowed 15 from the library. I have only been able to borrow e-books from my library since last year which has really helped my budget. I love my library again!
