End notes and Kobo Touch

I've nearly finished an ebook for the MR library that has about 300 footnotes throughout the text. There is a link from each footnote in the text to a file containing the text for the endnote, and a reciprocal link back to the original text. The ebook contains three plays originally written in Greek about 2,500 years ago, so the footnotes are important to explain ambiguities and puns and so on.

The endnotes work perfectly well on my Sony, Apple, and Nexus 7; but they don't work at all on my old Kobo Touch. When a footnote is selected either nothing happens or there may be movement to somewhere quite unrelated.

Can anyone point me please to an ePub ebook with endnotes which do work on a Kobo touch? I could then try to reverse engineer it to see if I can make the same technique work for me.
