OK I think I can guess what might have happened: I added the Cyrillic keyboard patch which has some unicode characters in the comments, and this might have caused some editors to add a unicode marker at the beginning of the file, which the pa32.exe program doesn't expect.
I've attached a copy of the libnickel.so.1.0.0.patch file that doesn't contain the Cyrillic keyboard patch, could those who are getting an error message (that the first line of libnickel.so.1.0.0.patch cannot be parsed) try using this file instead and let me know if it fixes the problem?
