Brandon Miniman from PocketNow has started an interesting series called "Losing the EDGE, Hello to EV-DO." Part 1 discusses some general thoughts about broadband usage on a smartphone, and asks the question "What can you do with EV-DO that you can’t do with EDGE?" Part 2 focuses on the free streaming media product called Orb, that is sort of like Slingbox, and allows you to remotely watch video stored on your home PC.

All this is especially interesting for PalmOS fans with the expected announcement of the Palm Treo 700p EV-DO smartphone, which is rumored to be available later this month from Verizon and Sprint.
