The Warhammer games started off as a Miniature army game with lots of figures to paint. It's produced by Games Workshop http://http://www.games-workshop.com/
Thier more popular settings are Warhammer (High Fantasy) and Warhammer 40K (similar races but set a SciFi space setting) Since an extensive mythology was created around their different worlds there are now lots of books, tabletop RPGs, and computer/TV-games, there was even a quite good MMO but it's been closed now. My favorite was Bloodbowl, think American football in a brutal Fantasy setting.
