I cannot replicate that either. Adding père to the list of author name suffixes and clicking the calculate author sort button in the edit metadata dialog gives
Alexandre Dumas père -> Dumas, Alexandre père
and
Alexandre Dumas, père -> Alexandre Dumas, père
