There are only two reasons to use the Sony software instead of Calibre--as has been mentioned earlier--if you want to buy books from Sony; and secondly the Sony software "prepaginates" your books.

The "prepagination" means that the books load faster the first time you open them or change the font size in them, as all this has already been calculated on your PC. What works best for me is to use Calibre to convert my content and then save to disk. I then use the Sony Software to upload the books to my reader.

Note--once you have the books in a format the reader can read (LRF, e-Pub, RTF, etc.) you can simply drag and drop files to your reader in Explorer if you want.
