Why would you use it for epubs? Just put in hyphens: none if you don't want hyphenation (not sure if that works for all devices though.
Few days ago, I experimented it tough:
  • hyphens:none; was not accepted by the internal bug-check (Calibre release 1.35).
  • EPUBCheck3.0.1 validated my EPUB nonetheless.

The property hyphens is not lisedt in the various O'Reilly reference books, but it is worthy to note that the IDPF specs accept it.
