Is there a driver that he needs to download or will doing a reset accomplish it? (A reset is done with a paperclip isn't it? This machine has worked so well I've haven't done one in a long, long time.)
Bringing back old memories here but I remember the original Kobo had a factory reset option on the settings/advanced menu. After this, he can enter his email associated with a Kobo store account -- if he is going to bother with one.

Otherwise, his computer should automatically install the driver when he first connects it to his computer without needing to download a driver from the web.
