But you would've saved it to the file storage, not sent it to the app.

I should think calibre still saves a cache to the device storage even on a tablet/smartphone. I remember loading up a friend's Galaxy S III with some PD books and there were a bunch of saved options including restricting which folders to scan for new books.... which come to think of it may be anotherr way to get a speed boost.
