That can happen, but only when the charger is one of those cheap $2 piece of junk from China or Kong Kong. HK manufacturers don't use UL listing and they have NO quality control.

As long as it's a trusted brand, any micro USB charger will do the job and be perfectly safe for your Kindle.

Excellent! Then one of the half dozen I have for phone and my Nexus 7 should work! Thanks Vmurph. (That will free up the 20 for more books!)
