UK Nook: can you change the plug?

I can't.

My Nook came with a standard US 2-pin plug on the PSU and a converter for using it with UK 13-amp sockets. I leave for the US in 2 days and want to remove the converter. I attacked it with brute strength, a screwdriver and a small hack saw... There has to be a cleverer way of doing this.

What have I missed, please?
