I appreciate your honesty in saying that poetry is a form you haven't quite understood, Xanthe. Thanks for being willing to own that.

I feel that way about ballet. I can watch it and be interested, but I don't feel I've understood the technical/formal aspects even after talking to at least four choreographer friends.

Many readers would blame the poets themselves and call their work "elitist" instead of recognizing the limits of their own understanding, which are actually gaps that can be filled and not evidence of anyone's incapacity (any more than they're proof of unpretentiousness).

And I do hope that someone writes a bio of Rosemary Tonks. At the very least, there should be an edition of her collected poems.
