I don't understand what's the problem of just releasing source to an extend that all H/w becomes accessible through the kernel, anyway. It would be a great advantage, encourage a FOSS community and come with virtually no risk of any disadvantage, whatsoever. I don't even care for the source of Onyx software, which I find is mostly garbage, but a decent FOSS Linux based kernel and H/W support...
Actually I think this is but a sideeffects of ignorance. People who haven't got the slightest clue how the software world works being in positions to make such decisions. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong...
